Punta Gorda residents, like Patsy and Paulie, have access to some of the best vacation spots right here in their own city! Punta Gorda’s downtown area is known for its dining, shopping, close proximity to the natural beauty of Charlotte Harbor, and art. Fishermen’s Village is also a great staycation spot for locals, with villas for rent over the shopping and dining spots in the waterfront mall.
Punta Gorda Hotels
There are two major hotels on Charlotte Harbor, and both offer excellent water views. The Four Points by Sheraton has 106 guest rooms available and features a tiki bar down by the water, complete with a beach area and Adirondack chairs , great burgers, and happy hour all day from 11 AM-11 PM. The Wyvern Hotel has a rooftop pool, bar, and lounge with a variety of live music and entertainment, and also has an in-house restaurant, Lulu Restaurant, with self-described “Latin fusion” cuisine. Fishermen’s Village, just a few minutes from downtown Punta Gorda, also has nightly and weekly vacation rentals available. The waterfront mall features a variety of restaurants and shopping plus live entertainment in the center court stage.
Punta Gorda Restaurants
Downtown Punta Gorda’s restaurants are unique and nearly all locally owned and operated. River City Grill is great for New American cuisine, while the Eurasian flavor restaurant The Perfect Caper is an James Beard Foundation Best Chef Southern in the United States award winning restaurant for four years running. Casual eating places just outside downtown Punta Gorda like the Ice House Pub, complete with traditional English pub food, darts (free to play), and 26 beers on tap, and Manatee’s Pizza, the best local pizza joint, have fair prices and great food. Laishley Crab House, Harpoon Harry’s, and The Captain’s Table all offer gorgeous Charlotte Harbor views with both casual and fine dining. Dessert shops downtown include Cubby’s Home Made Ice Cream and also a hip, new cupcake, beer, and wine spot, In Your Face Cupcakes.
Punta Gorda Entertainment
Live music is a staple around Punta Gorda. Dean’s South of the Border, River City Grill, Jack’s, Harpoon Harry’s, Laishley Crab House, Fishermen’s Village, the Wyvern rooftop, the Celtic Ray, TT’s Tiki Bar by Four Points by Sheraton, the Ice House Pub, In Your Face Cupcakes, Biehl’s Slip Knot, Trabue, and Closer to the Vine are all Punta Gorda establishments that offer music and entertainment sometimes every evening and at least weekly. On every Thursday night in Gilchrist Park on Charlotte Harbor, there is an Open Mic night, featuring music, poetry readings, and other local talent.
