Patsy and Paulie Explored Gilchrist Park in Punta Gorda, Florida
Gilchrist Park Offers a Variety of Things to Do in Punta Gorda
Walking, Jogging, and Biking Pathways
Patsy and Paulie were pleasantly surprised by the extensive walkways in Gilchrist Park that are both pedestrian and bicyclist accessible. An early morning brisk walk or evening stroll is nicely complemented by views of Charlotte Harbor and the historic homes lining West Retta Esplanade, the street running parallel to Gilchrist Park and Charlotte Harbor. Gilchrist Park actually covers 11 acres along Charlotte Harbor, making it the second largest active park in Punta Gorda!
Children’s Playground Area
Gilchrist Park has a large children’s playground complete with a large tree that children love to climb in. “When the grandbirds come to visit later this year, ” said Patsy, “I am definitely taking them to Gilchrist Park to play on the fenced playground area here. I can even bring lunch to eat under the covered picnic areas! It’s so convenient and fun for everyone.”
Basketball and Tennis Courts
Patsy and Paulie were delighted to see the two public access tennis courts and several basketball courts at Gilchrist Park. It’s things like this that make Punta Gorda a city that encourages physical fitness and a healthy lifestyle.
Gilchrist Park also has several public restrooms, covered picnic areas, a small beach, gardens, four parking lots, a gazebo (available for rent for special occasions), and a fishing pier. Paulie was especially excited about visiting Gilchrist Park for a little saltwater fishing. Gilchrist Park also features an Open Mic night on Thursdays at 7 PM in the park, allowing those who want to show off their musical talent to do so!
