Historic Punta Gorda Murals
The Murals of Historic Punta Gorda
Historic Punta Gorda is home to over 20 murals illustrating Punta Gorda’s rich history. These murals started as a dream of Dr. Robert Andrews to feature historic and educational murals throughout the city of Punta Gorda. Before hurricane Charley, more than 90 murals had been painted across 20 different sites. Sadly, hurricane Charley destroyed 10 of the historic Punta Gorda mural sites. Currently the Punta Gorda Historic Mural Society is working on having all of the destroyed murals repainted as well as adding new murals to our beautiful city.
Most recently the south-facing walls of the Charlevoi Condominiums have been chosen as the new location for the Hotel Charlotte Harbor mural recreation. The original mural was dedicated in 1995 and located on a wall of the old Punta Gorda mall. Both the mall and the mural were destroyed during hurricane Charley. Once this mural is completed only 3 of the 10 original historic Punta Gorda murals destroyed will be left to recreate.
