Five Star Realty Partners with Keep Charlotte Beautiful
Charlotte County Participates in International Coastal Cleanup
Five Star Realty volunteers helped clean up Charlotte County’s waterways this past Saturday, International Coastal Cleanup Day, in partnership with Keep Charlotte Beautiful, a Port Charlotte environmental nonprofit. The first International Coastal Cleanup event was organized by the Ocean Conservancy over 25 years ago. According to Glenda Anderson, executive director of Keep Charlotte Beautiful, about 700 individuals came out to volunteer last Saturday morning, including youth groups and Boy and Girl Scout troops. Five Star Realty was glad to help in this huge turnout of volunteers! We helped clean up Lake Betty Park in Port Charlotte and also the pond next to Port Charlotte High School. The trash item that we picked up the most of was cigarette butts/filters, which was the number one item picked up at last year’s International Coastal Cleanup. Two million cigarette butts were picked up in just one day at last year’s International Coastal Cleanup, and we picked up over 300 hundred cigarette butts at Lake Betty Park, despite a “tobacco-free” sign on the children’s playground. We hope to have a bigger volunteer turnout next year, and hope that you keep “Keeping Charlotte Beautiful” on your mind when you throw your trash into the proper receptacles!
Here at Five Star Realty, we know the importance of keeping our waterways clean. After all, waterfront property is a huge part of our business! Without keeping our coasts clean, we cannot expect people to be attracted to the natural beauty of southwest Florida.
