Charlotte County Enterprise Zone Public Open House
Punta Gorda Event at Charlotte Harbor Event & Conference Center
Tomorrow, Thursday, August 2, from 9 AM-12 PM, the Charlotte County Economic Development Office will be hosting a public open house (at the Charlotte Harbor Event & Conference Center) for more information about the Enterprise Zone, a specific area being designated in Charlotte County for economic revitalization. The State of Florida has created the Enterprise Zone Program to offer state tax incentives to qualifying businesses. The public is encouraged to attend in order to offer their opinion of the boundaries of the Zone. The boundaries are determined by specific criteria like the local unemployment rate and poverty rate. Some benefits of being in the Enterprise Zone include a Jobs Tax Credit (Sales Tax Credit or Corporate Income Tax), a Business Equipment Sales Tax Refund, and a Building Materials Sales Tax Refund. Following the Public Open House, the boundaries of the Enterprise Zone will be determined and presented to the Board of County Commissioners to be approved. After the Enterprise Zone boundaries are finalized, an Enterprise Zone Development Agency and Plan will be created. The application for final approval of the Enterprise Zone from the State of Florida is December 31st of this year.
