4th Fest 2012
This Punta Gorda Independence Day event will be at Laishley Park from 10 AM to 10 PM on July 4th, 2012. Live music, from artists including JJ McCoy, the Boogiemen Rock & Soul Revue, and Tayzer, will be onstage all day long. A dozen waterslides will be available for your children in Water-Mania, so come in your swimsuits and wear sunscreen! Tickets for rides/food/beverages will be available to purchase at Laishley, and an all day wristband for full access to water slides and bounce houses is available for $10. Children under 12 get in free, and adults pay a $3 admission fee. All proceeds benefit the Punta Gorda Fireworks. The fireworks start at 9 PM!

This 1.5 mile swim across Charlotte Harbor is more of a laid-back crawl than a competitive race. There is no registration to complete in order to participate; only common sense and safety are required. Hundreds participate every year, usually clothed in patriotic red, white, and blue swimwear. Participants are encouraged to have a swimming partner. The race starts at 2 PM on July 4, 2012 (with a meeting for the swimmers to start prior at 1:55 PM), at the beach at the north end of the southbound US 41 bridge. The race ends at Harpoon Harry’s at the end of Fishermen’s Village. A trolley between Fishermen’s Village and the starting point of the race will start running at noon on July 4. Those who are not so swimmingly inclined can rent a kayak from “It’s Time! Kayak and Canoe” in order to paddle across Charlotte Harbor. Call 941-255-3686 and ask for Mike or Audrey in order to reserve a single kayak rental ($30) or a double kayak ($45). Boat reservations are required, and will be waiting for paddlers at the Freedom Swim starting point and can be left for pickup at Fishermen’s Village. Good luck to all those that participate!
