Nature/Natural Events

The 22nd Annual Charlotte Harbor Freedom Swim will start at the north end of the southbound US 41 bridge, in the beach area. Preliminarily the start time is noon on the 4th of July, with a safety briefing at 11:55 AM. Trolleys will be running from 11 AM to 4 PM from Fishermen’s Village to the starting point of the Freedom Swim. There is no registration required and common sense while swimming the harbor is expected. Each swimmer is responsible for his own safety, and swimming with a group is highly encouraged. Several law enforcement agencies and the Coast Guard will be on hand to help with any emergencies. The swim is approximately 1.5 miles long, as long as a direct course is taken. The swim ends at Harpoon Harry’s, where a party will already be underway for the 4th of July.

Bayshore Live Oak Park will be hosting its Bayshore 4th of July Celebration starting at 7 PM on July 4th. Dance to live music by Clique and participate in the dance contest at 8:30 PM. Admission and parking are free. Bring your own dinner or purchase a meal from one of the vendors at the Punta Gorda event.

4th Fest 2013 in Laishley Park promises to be the biggest 4th of July celebration yet. New this year is the Water-Mania, featuring over a dozen water slides. This Punta Gorda event features live music from 3 PM until the fireworks at 9 PM, and also music after the fireworks! The event runs from 10 AM to 10 PM. Admission is $3 at the gate, with children under 12 admitted free. Tickets and wristbands are available for purchase for the rides, bounce houses, water slides, food, and beverages.
